Liu He hammers China dream at Davos
January 22, 2018
The highlight this week was an address from Liu He at the World Economic Forum in Davos. While Liu is widely expected to be promoted to head economic and financial efforts in the upcoming government reshuffle in March, he was the only representative speaking that was not a head of state. Liu focused his half hour speech aligned mostly with President Xi’s rhetorics – a stronger and wealthier China, China’s commitment to a more stable and open financial market, need for greater global cooperation. Domestically, provinces also took note of change in tone, and many lowered their GDP targets, as the central government pivots toward more “quality” growth. More in the note.
