Volatility returns to shake the world, but China may come out a winner

The week saw volatility returning into the markets globally, with weakness in US equities leading Asian markets to follow suit. However, the global sell-off may not be all bad news for China’s economy, which could benefit if the RMB depreciates amidst growing market anxiety. Meanwhile, technological advancements continue to explode in China, from facial recognition glasses being rolled out for traveler surveillance over Lunar New Year to self-driving cars being given the green light in some pilot cities.
