Xi Jinping follows steps of historical leaders Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping by enshrining his name into the constitution
October 23, 2017
Xi Jinping’s speech at the opening of the 19th National Congress was enshrined with the title ‘Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics’. The inclusion of the president’s name in the constitution has only been preceded twice – by Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping, two of China’s most prominent leaders. With the announcement also comes the reveal of the new group of China’s most powerful men – the seven-member Politburo Standing Committee. Finally, as a mainstay of Xi’s ideas, the ‘One Belt One Road’ initiative is encouraging the country’s national pension to look for overseas investment opportunities.
